February 1, 2010 - Marc B Brings Together Melodies of Surfing and Nature

With a look straight out of Endless Summer and his mellow feel-good vibe, Marc B may just be the next big thing to come from the southern California music scene.  The Orange County native combines a love of the nature, surfing and music to create songs with an environmental message.

As a surfer, Marc has learned to tune into his surroundings and the environment and the result can be heard in his songs. "We dedicate much of our day to monitoring ocean conditions.  We notice tides, wind direction, swell intervals...but we also notice when the water turns brown, we notice trash lined up on the beach after heavy rains...we see pollution getting worse, first hand.  As a musician, I have the ability to send a message to the masses.  Music can inform.  It can inspire. I want people to care about our planet.  I want people to put our ocean and air pollution problems into the front of their mind," he said.

This dedication to environmental protection expands beyond the message in his music.  Marc B has done benefits with Surfrider Foundation, Save the Waves, the Marine Mammal Center of San Francisco and many more. In addition, he and his band were recently named official ambassadors by Surf Aid International.

Marc B

Marc B (which stands for Beauregard) started playing music in fifth grade, after inheriting his grandfather's Fender bass guitar. He grew up in Fountain Valley, nestled between the towns of Newport Beach and Huntington Beach. "We had access to all the beach towns but weren't encapsulated in any one town.  It was a great place to grow up," he said.

These beach influences can be heard in his music, which has been described as "Sublime-on-Marley" by District Weekly.  Marc said, "Inspiration definitely comes from my surroundings.  I travel a lot, so most of my music ends up being written about the people and places I see." Marc recently released "The Yellow Jelly E.P." and is recording a full-length album this month.

From his feel-good songs to his environmental conscience, we love Marc B. Listen to him online at www.marcbmusic.com or download The Yellow Jelly E.P on iTunes.
